The Gold Coast has a proud history of hosting and promoting events and has a range of bodies who are ready to assist you to make your event a success.

The City of Gold Coast's (City) events team is a one-stop shop for event organisers, providing logistics, approvals and planning support, and in some cases, financial assistance. Providing support for a large range of events: large and small; sports, cultural and lifestyle; international and local, the team can assist you in delivering a high quality event that meets your customers' expectations.

Our events team also manages the City's events portfolio, attracting and retaining events to optimise the economic benefits to the city. For more information on event related support, please select from the channels listed below.

Major Events support

Major Events play a vital role in attracting visitors to the Gold Coast, contributing to the local economy, enhancing the reputation of the city and building community pride. The City seeks to attract and develop major events across the city, by providing support to events that meet a strict criteria and can demonstrate their alignment to the City’s Vision, Gold Coast 2020 (Corporate Plan) and Events Strategy.

The City will support and endorse Major Events that match the city’s brand, image and goals, and provide clear and tangible benefits to the city. Some of these benefits include:

  • attracting significant out-of-region attendance
  • generating significant spending in the region leading to positive economic outcomes
  • promoting the city image as a tourist destination to a wide audience (achieving national or international coverage).

Tourism and Events Queensland's (TEQ) events support

TEQ invests in and/or supports events across three major program groups being:

  • Major Event Investment
  • Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP)
  • Business Events

Gold Coast Tourism (GCT) marketing support

GCT is the destination marketing body of the city and recognises the importance of events in driving visitation to the Gold Coast. GCT can assist with Event marketing advice and in kind marketing support. An Events Toolkit has been developed that is available to all Event Organisers, Planners and Managers and clearly outlines the marketing support on offer via GCT. Further to this, the Toolkit outlines many supplementary channels and contacts that offer further assistance by way of promotional extensions or development. Local Councillor support

The City’s Local Councillors are supportive of events that are designed to provide a benefit to the city and to the residents of their community.

Community Grants Program

This Program is designed to assist not-for-profit community organisations that service the needs and pursuits of our community. Grants are available through this annual program for whole of city events that demonstrate a broad community benefit. To be eligible for assistance the event must meet the objectives of the funding category and be aligned to the City's Vision, Gold Coast 2020. Sport Attraction Program

The City has a focus on the attraction of state and national level sporting competitions. 

Each specific opportunity will be evaluated based on the anticipated benefits to the city and must be aligned to the objectives of the Gold Coast Sport Plan 2013-2023.
