Southport Olympic Swimming Club (SOSC) has a long history of coaching some of Australia’s best known swimmers such as Mel Schlanger and Leiston Pickett. The club is located and trains at Gold Coast Aquatic Centre and is listed as a Podium Centre, one of only 11 in Australia.

SOSC caters for all swimming levels from juniors, state, national age group, and Australian open and international competitors.

SOSC members have access to four heated training pools, a fully equipped indoor and outdoor gymnasium and hot and cold spas for recovery treatment.

Squad training program

Year round program

All competitive squad swimmers must be a member of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, and are encouraged to compete at club nights, targeted meets and other social activities run by the club.

How to enrol

All squad swimmers must enrol at Gold Coast Aquatic Centre prior to participating in any training sessions.

Squad progression

Mini squad Age 7-11 Introduction to our squad training program. Focus on correct technique, starts and turns, underwater streamlining, using pace clocks and swimming all four strokes. Up to four sessions per week.

Junior squad

Age 9-12 Competing at local meets and aiming to qualify at State Championships. A more formalised training structure to advance swimmers' ability and fitness. Six sessions per week.

State squad 

Age 11-18 Aimed at swimmers competing at State Championships and above. Combination of land based training for fitness and increased athleticism. Eight sessions per week.
National age Age national qualified A comprehensive program of pool, gym and circuit training to target State and National events. Up to nine sessions per week.
High performance

Finished with age nationals, aiming for Australian team representation. Nine sessions per week. Entry by National Open qualifying times.


  Catering for the intermediate swimmer through to swimmers competing at Masters competition level events. Three sessions per week.
