Variable Messaging Signs (VMS)

Commencing: November 2017
Completion: January 2018
Cost: $930,000

Project description

The project involves the construction of two new traffic information signs, also known as Variable Messaging Signs (VMS). The signs are located next to the Gold Coast Highway. Each VMS comprises an LED digital messaging board mounted within a steel gantry. The gantry overhangs the road carriageway and is supported on a steel column which is connected to a bored concrete pile footing.

The new signs will deliver messages to drivers about road closures, detours and traffic delays. They will also be used to inform road users of changes to the network during events including the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The VMS signs will be installed at the following locations:

  • Gold Coast Highway and Ada Bell Way, Southport
  • Gold Coast Highway and Tedder Avenue, Main Beach.
