World-class cultural precinct a step closer

Wednesday, 10 October 2012 12:40 PM

Gold Coast City Council could soon be inviting local and global design icons to master plan its new culture precinct through a worldwide design competition.

Under the plan endorsed by the Commonwealth Games and Major Projects Committee today, a world-wide search for up to three design consortia could commence as early as February next year.

A Gold Coast Cultural Precinct vision will be finalised in the coming weeks with the input of Councillors and key stakeholders and will reflect the ambitions of the project that encompasses the Evandale site.

The vision will also illustrate a competitive process that has been tailored to deliver high quality, detailed and costed concepts in a cost-effective way.

Local design teams will be encouraged to partner with internationally renowned designers to deliver a master plan with a global impact that pays tribute to design that is quintessentially Gold Coast.

The details of the competition are expected to be released globally in early November.
