Arts & culture community consultation

We have just completed our fifth Capturing Cultural Impact Survey. Feedback from the community helps us identify and analyse opportunities and challenges in our city's arts and cultural sector.

How we use survey feedback

We use community feedback to gain greater insight on:

  • the community’s perception of the value of arts and culture
  • the benefits arts and cultural activity provides Gold Coast residents
  • how arts and cultural activity contributes to the economic, environmental, and social wellbeing of our community.

The first city-wide Capturing Cultural Impact Survey was taken in September 2017 before the Commonwealth Games.

Since then, we have received over 7000 responses across 5 surveys, documenting the Gold Coast community’s ideas and options regarding arts and culture in our city.

The survey responses have contributed to the development of significant creative initiatives including:

  • providing opportunities to young artists
  • delivering creative tourism funding
  • engaging and supporting First Nations artists
  • supporting the live music industry through the development and delivery off the Music Action plan 2021
  • delivering creative professional placement programs for artists and arts workers
  • providing access to cultural spaces including galleries, performance and rehearsal rooms and artist studios
  • delivering arts funding for artists, creative businesses and community organisations.

The data has also been used to:

  • successfully report on the outcomes of the Culture Strategy 2023
  • report on the arts and cultural objectives in the Council Plan
  • directly benefit other areas of council such as City Reputation and Economy, Planning & Environment, Libraries, Community Centres and Community Services.
