indigenous culture

City of Gold Coast is a community that values its cultural heritage. Valuing and elevating our Indigenous culture is a key action within our Culture Strategy 2023.

The City supports programs and initiatives that deliver on this action.

We have established a permanent, full-time Indigenous Arts and Culture Officer position to drive this program of work.

Indigenous Artist Camp

Each year, City of Gold Coast facilitates the Indigenous Artist Camp. The camp is a significant development and creative opportunity for Indigenous artists.

A leading Indigenous visual artist designs and runs the professional development course. The course is held for emerging and established local Indigenous artists at South Stradbroke Island. The initiative aims to give local artists the skills and inspiration to take their work and careers to a new level.

Following the Indigenous Artist Camp, the City and the Indigenous artists partner with HOTA. The artworks created at the camp are showcased at the HOTA Gallery.

Take a look at the Indigenous Artist Camp books produced each year as an outcome of the program. The books are key resources that elevate the visibility of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.

You can view the books online, or download them to keep:
