Professional Placement Program Hosts

Our Professional Placement Program helps early and mid-career artists and creative workers to gain experience in a professional arts and cultural setting, supported by a host/mentor.

Are you committed to strengthening the Gold Coast arts and culture sector?

Placements offer either 40 hours or 30 days paid experience, with hosts also receiving a modest stipend for participating.

Becoming a host is a wonderful way for your business to gain a fresh perspective and for you to contribute to the growth of the local sector.

Placement career stage options

We are looking for hosts from all artforms that can offer one or both of the following placement types:

Option 1. Early career mentorship

  • 40 hours one-on-one mentorship within an industry environment

Option 2: Mid-career placement

  • 30 days hands-on professional development within a host organisation

Who can apply to be a host?

Artists, arts and cultural workers, local arts and culture sector businesses, organisations or associations who have specific artform knowledge or demonstrated experience in an arts and culture context.

We strongly encourage applications from hosts who identify as or whose organisation primarily exists to service any of the groups listed:

  • First Nations peoples
  • People with a disability
  • People aged 55+
  • People aged 18-24
  • LGBTQIA+
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Host responsibilities

  • Provide mentorship within a workplace environment.
  • Help your placement develop relevant skills, experience and networks to boost their career.

Eligibility

Host applicants must

  • Be Gold Coast based or up to 160kms from the City’s office in 8 Karp Court, Bundall
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Have a registered Australian Business Number (ABN) in the name of applicant
  • Have public liability insurance
  • Be a practicing artist or arts professional or engage practicing artists or arts professionals
  • Be recognised as an arts and cultural expert
  • Have strong arts and cultural professional industry connections and networks
  • Hold appropriate qualifications, certification and training if working with someone from a vulnerable community including First Nations peoples, people with disability, young people (12-24 years), children (0-11 years) or other vulnerable groups.
  • Hold appropriate qualifications/certification to undertake specialised arts and cultural activities, such as those involving therapeutic arts practices, in a safe, inclusive and culturally competent manner.

Mentors within a Host must

  • Be a professional working in the arts and culture sector with a minimum of 5 years of cumulative experience, either:
    • in their area of creative or cultural expertise
    • within an organisation in the cultural or creative sector
    • managing their own creative or cultural company. 
  • Have previous mentoring experience such as:
    • participation in formal mentoring programs
    • mentoring of individuals or teams
    • providing training or guidance on cultural, creative or related projects within the past 5 years.
  • Submit compulsory support material as part of the application, including current resume.

Key dates

  • Applications close: Monday 20 October 2025 at midnight
  • Notify application outcomes: By Wednesday 12 November 2025
  • Callout for Placement participants: February 2026
  • Earliest Placement start date: June 2026
  • Latest Placement finish date: March 2027
