Zhuhai

Zhuhai, meaning Pearl Sea for its location at the juncture of the Pearl River and South Sea, is a city encapsulating 146 islands. The beaches and coastal lifestyle draw domestic visitors to its shores every summer and Zhuhai was named China's most liveable city in 2014. Zhuhai was one of the first Special Economic Zones in mainland China and with the completion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, Zhuhai is the only city in China connected to Hong Kong and Macau by land.

Population: The population of Zhuhai is 2.02 million with the prefecture made up of 146 islands.

Language: The official language of Zhuhai is Mandarin; however Cantonese is widely spoken.

Location: Zhuhai is located on the southern coast of Guangdong Province in China.

Climate:

• Spring (March to May): Mostly warm with high humidity. Spring marks the beginning of the wet season, with increased rainfall and occasional thunderstorms.
• Summer (June to September): Extreme heat, although the weather is fine and clear. There is still high chance of rain with typhoons occurring in July.
• Autumn (October to November): Temperatures fall slightly, but the heat is still there during the day with an average of 24°C. It rains less than previous months and the air is clear and clean.
• Winter (December to February): Winters are not cold and temperatures stay above 10°C. Low rainfall means the days are dry, snowless and frostless.

Local time: The local time of Zhuhai (and the whole of mainland China) is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) +8 which makes it only 2 hours behind the Gold Coast.
