Projects completed

In 2017, a $250,000 budget funded some of the low-cost and shorter term public realm improvement projects, including:

  • Artistic road surface treatment at the central pedestrian threshold of Fifth Avenue, which celebrates the street as a community space for events and festivals
  • Cohesive street tree planting along avenues.
  • New seating area in Palm Beach Avenue as well as artistic footpath surface treatment, new street trees, garden, feature seating, bicycle rack, drinking fountain and improvements to stormwater infrastructure to reduce localised flooding.
  • Landscaping along sections of the Gold Coast Highway median between Tenth and Third Avenues.
  • Street furniture refurbishment, improving quality and location of existing street furniture including new drinking fountains, upgraded community notice board in Fifth Avenue, new bicycle racks, streetlights, and repainted plant pots.
  • A new mural on the Palm Beach Hotel wall along Fifth Avenue and treatment of blank walls on the eastern side of the hotel car park.
  • Road resealing on Fifth and Sixth Avenues.
  • A safer pedestrian/vehicle environment and a reduction in vehicle speed limit.
