Broadbeach place making project
Location: Surf Parade between Queensland and Victoria Avenues, Broadbeach
Master plan: Broadbeach Core Business Precinct
Design: City Place Making
Build/Installation: City of Gold Coast
Budget: $5 million
Completed: In 2 stages, 2016 and 2017
Award: 2018 AILA QLD Landscape Architecture Award in the Civic Landscape category
This section of Surf Parade is a mix of residential, restaurant and commercial businesses. Many of the restaurants have licenced outdoor dining areas extending to the footpath contributing to the lively atmosphere. Surf Parade plays a pivotal role in the greater Broadbeach business precinct as the main 'eat street' within the precinct and as well as being one of the main areas hosting key major events including the iconic Blues on Broadbeach. During music festivals, the street is closed to traffic.
The first project to be delivered from the master plan, the Surf Parade upgrade has helped expand commercial activity of the street and the business centre. The design improved public amenity and as a result, the potential for economic growth.
