Interview

What to expect

An interview is a two-way conversation. We’ll ask you about your relevant experience, skills and motivation for joining the City of Gold Coast.

You can ask questions too – about the work you would be doing, the team, work environment, or anything important to you.

How to prepare

Review the Position Brief to familiarise yourself with the role. Make notes about relevant experiences you can draw on to support your application. Notes can help clarify your thinking and boost your confidence. You can even practice answering questions with a friend or in the mirror.

After the interview

Reference checks

We will contact referees for our preferred candidates. Let your referees know you’ve had an interview, so they are prepared.

Pre employment checks

All preferred candidates are required to undergo mandatory alcohol and other drug testing.

Depending on the role, you may also be asked to complete:

  • pre-employment medical assessments
  • criminal history checks
  • VEVO / working visa checks (to confirm work rights)
  • psychometric testing (for example, personality or cognitive ability assessments).

Getting the job

All new hires are required to provide their pre-employment documentation, including your bank details, super fund details, copies of your identification and proof of any relevant qualifications before you start working.

Once you start, we’ll help you settle into your new role and team with corporate orientation and relevant training to set you up quickly.
