Disaster Recovery Hero Award

The City of Gold Coast Disaster Recovery Hero Award recognises the incredible efforts of individuals and community members who stepped up to help others recover after Tropical Cyclone Alfred and the severe storms and heavy rainfall over Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024.

Since these events, we’ve seen the strength of our community with people coming together to support each other in powerful ways. This award celebrates those everyday heroes and the unwavering spirit of the Gold Coast.

The 2025 Disaster Recovery Hero Award winners have now been announced

This year, the individual award was presented to Robina community advocate Wayne Holmes, and the local community organisation award went to the Paradise Point Bowls Club.

Over 50 nominations were received, showcasing acts of bravery, generosity and kindness – from volunteers delivering hot meals and food hampers, to neighbours clearing debris, distributing fresh water and supporting grant applications.

These awards highlight the powerful impact of both individual action and community spirit during times of emergency.

Congratulations to all the nominees for their resilience and commitment to supporting others during challenging times.
