Freedom of Entry to the City

The Freedom of Entry to the City is a right which is granted upon a military unit by a Local Government, authorising that unit to march through the streets of the city on a ceremonial occasion with swords drawn, bayonets fixed, drums beating, guidon flying and band playing.

The granting of the Freedom of Entry to the City represents the highest honour that the city can confer on a military unit.

The City of Gold Coast has granted Freedom of Entry to the City to the following:

  • 1967, presented to 41st Battery, Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery
  • 1989, presented to the First Military District Band
  • 30 Oct 2016, presented to 221 squadron Australian Air Force Cadets, with squadrons 213, 222 and 232 also honoured on the day.
