Better parks and green spaces for a growing city

The 2026–27 City budget is investing in the green behind the gold, with $240 million dedicated to projects that protect the natural environment and enhance recreational green spaces.
This funding supports the City’s ongoing land acquisition program, securing parks, sporting facilities and community spaces to meet the needs of a growing population.
A key focus of the 2026–27 budget is implementing the Pizzey Park Master Plan, developed in collaboration with the community, local sporting clubs and organisations.
“Pizzey Park will soon transform into a premier sports, recreation and lifestyle destination ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Mayor Tom Tate said.
The budget allocates $18.3 million to progress the Master Plan, maximising opportunities for sports participation.
The City is also progressing the next stages of Greenheart, which is set to become the largest parkland on the Gold Coast.
Located across Merrimac and Robina, the 257-hectare Greenheart site will be six times the size of Broadwater Parklands and provide a significant new space for community recreation and environmental conservation.
Upgrades will also be delivered in 2026-27 at Paradise Point Parklands, Woodroffe Park and Surfers Paradise Park, enhancing local green spaces across the city.
“Work is not yet done restoring our beaches after Tropical Cyclone Alfred, and this budget responds to community expectation by investing in our beaches and waterways so they can be enjoyed for generations to come,” Mayor Tate said.
“This budget delivers continued investment in vector control, urban pest management and biosecurity to protect our natural environment.”
