Species conservation
The Gold Coast is one of the most biodiverse cities in Australia, home to a wide range of ecosystems, habitats, plants and animals. We have over 6000 species of native animals and plants including amphibians, butterflies, birds, mammals, reptiles, freshwater fish, flowering and non-flowering plants. In fact, we are one of 36 biodiversity hotspots in the world!
This includes approximately 200 plant and animal species that are rare and/or threatened.
We are working hard to protect our landscapes and wildlife, recognising the critical importance of how a healthy natural environment creates a sustainable future for our community.
