Cook once, eat twice is a great motto when it comes to making the most of your leftovers. It will save you throwing out perfectly good food, as well as save time in the kitchen.

Lots of dishes make great leftovers that can be either a second dinner or a delicious lunch the next day. The right recipe made at double the quantity can be frozen for a mid-week dinner the following week.

Love your leftovers

  • Make extra. Plan to have leftovers and make sure it’s enough for a full extra meal, whether it's for lunch or dinner. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for the next day, or freezer for longer.
  • Have a leftovers night – the night before grocery day is a good choice. Take out all leftover ingredients and create a meal out of them.
  • Put leftovers on a specific fridge shelf at the front so they’re in your line of sight to grab for quick and easy snacks or lunches.
  • Turn leftover roasted vegetables into a frittata. Pop them in a pie dish, pour over beaten eggs, and add some herbs or cheese before baking in the oven.
  • Freeze leftover fruit. Cut it up and freeze in airtight containers and use for smoothies.

Always ensure you store your leftovers properly so they’re safe to use.
