The majority of competition for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) was held on the Gold Coast in a mix of new or upgraded, existing and temporary venues.
Commonwealth Games Village
Located adjacent to Griffith University at Parklands, the Commonwealth Games Village hosted more than 6500 athletes and team officials during GC2018. The 29-hectare site includes 1200 apartments and townhouses across 30 buildings, along with a central park and boulevard.
The Parklands Project is the single-most significant legacy for GC2018. The site has been transformed into a mixed–use residential community at the heart of the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.
Broadbeach Bowls Club
The Broadbeach Bowls Club, located at Nikiforides Family Park in Broadbeach, was upgraded for GC2018, providing four international-standard bowls greens and refurbished clubhouse facilities. The redevelopment established the club as Australia's premier lawn bowls venue, providing a valuable, world class competition and training venue for athletes and the wider Gold Coast community.
Gold Coast Sports Precinct
The Gold Coast Sports Precinct served as the signature venue precinct for GC2018, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies, athletics, badminton, weightlifting, powerlifting and wrestling.
Redevelopment of the precinct has provided a significant legacy for the Gold Coast, strengthening existing sporting and recreational infrastructure, enabling significant events capacity for both indoor and outdoor events and supporting the needs of our growing city.
The 56 hectare international sports and recreation precinct now comprises the following:
- Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre – a world-class, multipurpose, indoor sporting facility, featuring a show court with a maximum seating capacity of 5000 and up to 15 basketball/netball courts for community use.
- Carrara (Metricon) Stadium – with capacity for 25,000 spectators, this stadium now boasts upgraded broadcast and lighting facilities. It is the home ground for the Suns Australian Football League team. With the recent upgrades, the venue is also now capable of hosting domestic and international cricket matches.
- Southern precinct – the site on the southern side of Nerang Broadbeach Road adjacent to Carrara Stadium has 3 new and 6 existing community sporting fields and supporting infrastructure.
Coomera Indoor Sports Centre
Officially opened in 2016, the multipurpose Coomera Indoor Sports Centre, located at Beattie Road in the northern Gold Coast, hosted gymnastics and netball finals for GC2018.
The venue can cater for community and national events, with an indoor arena that can incorporate eight basketball/netball-sized courts and a 1500 square metre gymnastics facility.
This venue will be the centrepiece for the transformation of Coomera Sports Park into a significant elite and community sports precinct.

Gold Coast Aquatic Centre
Located within the scenic Broadwater Parklands, the $41 million Gold Coast Aquatic Centre was the first GC2018 venue to be completed and hosted the swimming and diving competition.
A world-class outdoor venue, it is designed to accommodate temporary spectator seats for major competition events, as well as a range of community uses.
The centre features a new 50-metre competition pool, refurbished 25-metre pool, 50-metre pool, dive pool and a dry dive facility.
Additional community facilities include a new learn to swim pool and children's play pool, café, gym, function rooms and crèche.
Nerang mountain bike trails
Located at the Nerang National Park and Gold Coast Cycle Centre, the mountain bike trail is of international competition standard.
Gold Coast Hockey Centre
Located at Keith Hunt Park, Labrador the Gold Coast Hockey Centre was upgraded for GC2018, providing two all-weather, synthetic pitches and seating for 5000 spectators. The centre is now regarded as Queensland's premier hockey venue, providing a valuable, world-class competition and training venue for athletes and the Gold Coast community.
CBus Super Stadium
The $160 million Cbus Super Stadium is a 27,400 seat stadium located at Robina. This multipurpose, world-class sporting and entertainment stadium is the home of the Gold Coast Titans national rugby league team and hosted the Rugby Sevens competition for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre
The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, located at Broadbeach, is the city's premier convention and exhibition venue and the largest regional convention centre in Australia.
The venue features a 5000-seat arena, 6000 square metres of exhibition space and more than 1400 underground car park spaces. It hosted the preliminary rounds of netball and the basketball finals for GC2018.
Broadwater Parklands
The Broadwater Parklands at Southport is the Gold Coast's premier foreshore park and the venue for a range of major annual events, including the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge and Luke Harrop Memorial Triathlon. It hosted the marathon, triathlon and walking events for GC2018.
Village Roadshow Studios
A new 'Super Stage' at Village Roadshow Studios Oxenford was opened in May 2016, just in time to allow filming of Thor 3.
This venue hosted the squash, boxing and table tennis competition for GC2018 and importantly, has created a long-term economic legacy for the Gold Coast by boosting the city's film and television production facilities. It offers 4000 square metres of production space.
Currumbin Valley
Currumbin Valley provided a picturesque backdrop as the location of the cycling road race events for GC2018. Commencing and finishing on the Currumbin beachfront, the road race circuit provided a range of areas for spectators to view the event.
