You can request the following types of building records:

Extract of building records

This report lists all building approvals for residential or commercial structures. It includes amendments, additions, alterations, swimming pools and outstanding building notifications the property.

The report for each approved application includes:

  • Builder's name
  • Plumber's name
  • Private certifier's name
  • Description of the works
  • Application number
  • Approval date
  • Inspection date (types, date and who carried it out)

Fees: For commercial properties, the fee covers up to 4 building applications. If there are more, we'll send you a quote for the additional fees.

Processing time

Residential (Class 1a and 10) – approximately 15 business days.
Commercial (Class 1b to 9) – approximately 25 business days.
If you only need details for one unit in a building, then the residential fee applies.

Building compliance inspection and report

This not a building and pest inspection report.

A Council officer will visit the property to assess if the building(s) have been constructed in accordance with the approved building plans (not supplied).

This is also not a structural inspection. However, we will issue Enforcement Notices if we find structures without building approval and/or outstanding building works.

Fees: For commercial properties, a quote is required for Building Compliance Inspection and Report on Structures. If only one unit in the building is required, then the residential fee applies.

Processing time

Residential (Class 1a and 10) – approximately 25 business days.
Commercial (Class 1b to 9) – approximately 25 business days.

Certificate of Occupancy (classification)

This search provides a copy of the original certificate issued for buildings constructed after 1975. It specifies the building's classification under the Building Code of Australia and how it can be used.

Processing time

Approximately 15 business days.

If more than one certificate exists, we'll send you a quote for the additional fees will be sent to the applicant. Refer to the Building classification codes(PDF, 30KB) for more information.

Final Inspection Certificate

This search provides a copy of the original Form 21 for the Final Inspection of building work (may not be available for buildings constructed before 1975). It applies to single detached dwellings and other Class 1 or 10 building work (alterations or additions to existing dwellings, sheds, patios).

A Form 17 is issued as a Final Inspection Certificate for swimming pools and spas. Pool Safety Certificates are available from the Queensland Building and Construction Commission at qbcc@qld.gov.au.

Processing time

Approximately 15 business days.

Note: For multi-unit or non-residential building (factory, shop), request a Certificate of Classification.
