Buying or building in a flood risk area

Like many coastal cities, Gold Coast is susceptible to flooding. Managing flood risk plays an important role in our city's long-term sustainability.

Past flood events have caused moderate to extensive damage to private property. The following video explains what to consider when buying or building in a flood risk area. The information will help you stay safe and reduce the risk of property damage.

Is your property in a flood risk area?

You can check if your property is in a flood risk area by using our flood maps. These maps identify areas that are subject to flooding.

You can also buy a flood level search report for a property. The report includes the flood levels. It will not show the flood extent for a property. Find out how to request a Flood level search report.

Provisions may apply under the City Plan Flood overlay code to building and developing land located within a flood risk area. For more information, contact us on 07 5582 8708 or email mail@goldcoast.qld.gov.au.
