Vehicular crossing inspections
Book an inspection
Two onsite inspections are required after you obtained an approval to construct a vehicular crossing:
- pre-pour – before the placement of concrete
- post-pour – after the placement of concrete.
These inspections ensure the VXO complies with our standard drawings or OPV (operational works for vehicular crossing) approved plans and conditions.
You can book an inspection online or call us on 07 5667 5978.
Book a VXO inspection

Pre-pour inspection
An inspection is required before the placement of concrete to ensure that the VXO will be constructed in accordance with standard drawings or OPV-approved plans.
Approval
If the compliance officer is satisfied that the proposed VXO formwork and reinforcement are consistent with the standard drawings or OPV-approved plans, the officer will issue a green approval sticker.
The concrete can be poured.
Non approval
If the compliance officer is not satisfied that the proposed VXO is consistent with the standard drawing(s) or OPV-approved plans and conditions, the officer will issue a red warning sticker.
The concrete must not be poured.
A Site Advice notice will also be issued. The notice will detail conditions and directions for compliance with the standard drawing(s) or OPV-approved plans.
You must:
- alter the VXO/formwork so it is consistent with the standard drawings or OPV-approved plans and complies with the Site Advice notice
- pay a reinspection fee
- book a pre-pour reinspection.
Post-pour inspection
An inspection is required after the placement of concrete to ensure that the VXO has been constructed in accordance with standard drawings or OPV-approved plans.
All verges are to be backfilled and re-turfed to the finished height of the adjacent VXO, before post-pour inspection, to remove any pedestrian hazard.
Redundant VXOs
The maximum allowable number of VXOs for residential dwellings is to be in accordance with standard drawing RS-049(PDF, 329KB). Redundant VXOs are to be removed and the affected area reinstated to the satisfaction of the authorised officer.
Approval
If the compliance officer is satisfied that the VXO is consistent with the standard drawings or OPV-approved plans, then a VXO completion letter will be issued.
Non approval
If the compliance office is not satisfied that the VXO is consistent with the standard drawing(s) or OPV-approved plans, a Site Advice notice containing directions for compliance with the approved drawings will be issued.
You must:
- alter the VXO so it is consistent with the standard drawings or OPV-approved plans and complies with the issued notice
- comply within 5 business days of the date of the notice
- pay a reinspection fee
- book a post-pour reinspection.
