Material change of use

A Material change of use means a change in the way a property is being used. For example, when a block of land with a single dwelling house on it changes to multiple dwellings.

When an approval is required

You need development approval for a Material change of use when there is:

  • the start of a new use of the premises; or
  • the re-establishment on the premises of a use that has been abandoned; or
  • a material change in the intensity of scale of the use of the premises.

Step 3.Visit one of our customer service centres

Submit your application and pay at one of our customer service centres Monday to Friday between 8.15am and 4.30pm.
