A road is any area of land that has been set aside by legislation for current or future use. Not all roads are being used by vehicles or pedestrians, and some may never end up being used for that purpose.
An application for permanent road closure can be made by an adjoining landowner who is the registered owner of the property that shares a common boundary with the road. For more information, visit the Department of Resources website.
There are two stages to get a permanent road closure approval:
- Apply to Council for permanent road closure (Referral Agency). Council is a 'stakeholder' for any road closure applications on the Gold Coast. You need our approval to accompany your application to Department of Resources.
- Apply to Department of Resources for approval.
If your application is for a temporary road closure only, visit the Temporary road closures page.
