Resilience ratings for homes

We've partnered with the Resilient Building Council to help residents make their homes stronger and safer against natural hazards like floods, bushfires, severe storms and cyclones.

The Household Resilience Ratings Program offers free assessments to homeowners, giving personalised, practical guidance about how to reduce disaster risk and prepare for extreme weather.

The program has 2 phases. In both phases, you'll receive a Resilience Ratings Report showing how your home is likely to perform in different hazard events and which upgrades will make the biggest difference.

Phase 1: Free on-site expert assessments in 2025

  • Free on-site assessments were completed in November and December 2025 for 40 homes.
  • Participants received their resilience ratings report in March 2026.
  • Community workshops will take place in May 2026 to support households through next steps to improve home resilience.

Phase 2: Free self-assessments in 2026

  • Free self-assessments will be available for up to 1000 freestanding homes.
  • Expressions of interest are now open. To register your interest, visit the Resilient Building Council.
  • Workshops will be offered to guide you through the process and help you get the most out of your assessment.
