What happens when a dog arrives at a City pound?
- Microchips are scanned and owners are contacted
- The dog receives fresh food and clean water, comfortable bedding, a veterinary check, grooming and enrichment
How long are animals held at the pound?
- Registered, microchipped dogs are held for 5 working days
- Unidentified dogs are held for 3 working days
- If dogs are not collected within this time frame, they are transferred to the Animal Welfare League
How do I collect my pet from the pound?
When you come to the pound to collect your pet, you will need to:
- show identification – if collecting on behalf of the owner, verbal authorisation from the owner will be required before release
- pay a release fee and any accrued daily sustenance charges
- register your dog if they are unregistered
- microchip your cat or dog if they aren't already microchipped.
