Get Ready

Queensland is Australia's most disaster-prone state and the Gold Coast has its fair share of natural disasters. Being prepared can help safeguard your family, pets and property against severe storms, cyclones, floods and bushfires.

By making a plan now, you can help keep your home, loved ones and community safer.

It's easy to do and it won't take you long.

Households that plan together stay safer together.

Make sure you get the household involved so everyone knows what to do if the weather turns bad.

You might even want to include your neighbours or friends.

Understand the warnings

Emergencies can escalate quickly, so staying informed is important.

Warnings are issued by the City of Gold Coast and emergency services when a hazard is active or predicted. These warnings may relate to severe weather, floods, cyclones, tsunamis, extreme heat, or bushfires.

Knowing what the warnings mean before an emergency can help you make faster, safer decisions.

The warnings will come in one of 3 levels:

  • Advice (yellow)
  • Watch and Act (orange)
  • Emergency Warning (red)
