Surrender your vehicle

If a vehicle has been impounded and you would like to hand it over to the City, apply on this page.

If you are the vehicle owner, relevant documents must be provided.

If you aren't the owner, you must supply a letter of authority from the vehicle owner.

Once the surrender form is submitted, the City owns the vehicle and we may take action to dispose of it.

Step 1.Gather your documents

To apply for vehicle surrender, you will need to know your:

  • street address & key contact details
  • your driver's licence number.

You will need to provide the vehicle details:

  • AV number & impound date
  • make, model, plate number, etc., details.

If you own the vehicle, you will need provide proof of ownership and 1 photo id:

  • driver's licence
  • bill of sale
  • vehicle registration papers.

If you don't own the vehicle you will need to provide:

  • a letter of authority from the vehicle owner
  • the vehicle owner's driver's licence
  • bill of sale
  • vehicle registration papers.

Step 2.Complete the application form

If you own the vehicle – download, print and complete the Abandoned vehicle surrender form(PDF, 158KB)

If you don't own the vehicle – ensure to have your letter of authority printed to go with the surrender form.

Step 3.Send us your completed application form

Scan the completed application form and supporting documents.

Step 3.Visit one of our customer service centres

Submit your application at one of our customer service centres (Monday to Friday between 8.15am and 4.30pm).

Please ensure you bring your supporting documentation with you.
