The City will be reconstructing Monaco Street, between the 2 bridges, east and west, of Savoy Drive. This will improve the overall condition of the road surface, road drainage and reduce the need for regular maintenance.

Construction details

  • Pavement reconstruction and asphalt resurfacing along Monaco Street, Broadbeach Waters, for an approximate distance of 390 metres
  • Kerb and channel reconstruction to meet City of Gold Coast's Land Development Guidelines
  • Partial or full driveway reconstruction to match in with kerb and channel works for 50 properties
  • Replacement of the existing 390 metre footpath on the southern side of Monaco Street and upgrade from 1.2 metre to a 1.8-metre wide shared footpath with localised narrowing
  • Upgrade of stormwater infrastructure within the Savoy Drive–Monaco Street roundabout to improve road drainage and mitigate flooding
  • Adjustments to line marking and road space allocation to meet safety standards
  • Reinstatement of traffic control devices and reflectors
  • Tree pruning, tree removal and median replanting

Public impacts

Construction is currently scheduled to commence in October 2021 and will be completed in 34 weeks, weather permitting. Civil works are to be completed between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday (and Saturday as required).

During construction, there will be temporary changes to traffic conditions along Monaco Street. There will be no full road closures and access will be maintained, however part road closures may be required to facilitate works. Traffic management will be in place.

We will continue to work with the community to minimise disruptions. However, local residents and businesses may be impacted by traffic disruptions, lane closures and traffic detours, limited access, construction noise and dust.

Please slow down around roadworks and take extra care in the area. Thank you for your patience as we work to improve our city.

Benefits for the community

  • Improved road surface and amenity
  • Improved road drainage and flooding issues
  • Decrease in maintenance works along Monaco Street
  • Renewed footpath surface to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and to encourage active travel
