Burleigh Heads & Tallebudgera – Old Coach Rd upgrade – Stage 2
- Project typeRoads & transport
- Project value$109 million
- Project scheduleDesign: 2021–25, Construction: 2025–28
We are planning further upgrades to Old Coach Road to improve capacity, road safety, community connections and reduce traffic congestion. The project includes a new road link to Burleigh Interchange and upgrading the staggered intersection of Old Coach, Tallebudgera Creek and Tallebudgera Connection Roads to a four-way signalised intersection.
Project information
Design work is progressing on the Old Coach Road upgrade Stage 2 which will connect with the first stage of improvements to Old Coach Road. The first stage between the Kingsmore Boulevard roundabout (near the M1 Exit 85 off-ramp) and the former Reedy Creek motocross track was completed in 2020.
The Stage 2 upgrade and new road link to the Burleigh Interchange will provide alternative access to the M1 for the communities of Reedy Creek, Burleigh Heads, Tallebudgera and Tallebudgera Valley. It will also improve connectivity across the M1 for users travelling on Tallebudgera Creek and Tallebudgera Connection Roads.
As part of the planning and design process, we are undertaking early investigation works within the project area.
These include:
- fauna & flora studies
- noise monitoring
- surveying
- geotechnical studies.
These investigations are expected to be completed in 2022. The information collected will be used to finalise the project design.
Construction details
Design work is underway and is due to be completed in the 2024–25 financial year. Phased construction is scheduled to start at the end of Stage 1 of Old Coach Road (completed 2020) and continue to Tallebudgera, finishing with the connection to the M1 at Exit 87. Construction works will commence in 2025–26 and finish in 2027–28.
The works will include:
- a new road link/connection to the upgraded M1 Exit 87 interchange
- a new 4-way signalised intersection of Old Coach Road, Oyster Creek Drive and the new road link to the Burleigh Interchange
- realignment of Oyster Creek Road to connect to new intersection
- a 4-way signalised intersection at Old Coach, Tallebudgera Creek and Tallebudgera Connection Roads
- road widening, safety upgrades, shared pathway and on-road cycling lanes
- fauna protection measures.
We will update you about timeframes and potential impacts as the project progresses.
