Coolangatta – Rutledge Street retaining wall works

We are upgrading the retaining wall on Rutledge Street, between Tweed Street and Staptylton Street in Coolangatta. The upgrade will improve slope stability, road safety and drainage. Works include closing sections of the road and traffic detours.

Construction details

  • Replace existing retaining wall
  • Reconstruct kerb and channel on the lower service road
  • Install new kerb and channel along Rutledge Street where the guardrail is currently located
  • Replace guardrail
  • Reconstruct road pavement above the retaining wall
  • Upgrade stormwater drainage, including a new gully pit and stormwater pipe
  • Remove existing vegetation along the wall

Impact during construction

  • Work hours: 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday
  • Rutledge Street will operate to local traffic only between Tweed Street and Stapylton Street
  • Temporary road closures and detours will be in place
  • Parking near the works area will be restricted
  • Access to property along the lower service road may be affected at times
  • You may notice construction noise, truck movements, dust and vibration

Residents directly affected by the works will receive updates and notifications as works progress.
