We are investigating options for a widened shared path along Duringan Street in northern Currumbin, between Currumbin Beach car park at 'The Alley' and the Gold Coast Highway.

Thank you to everyone who contributed valuable feedback during the initial community consultation phase. Your input has been instrumental in shaping this project. With community engagement now complete, we are carefully reviewing the insights gathered to refine and guide the project's next steps.

Why are we investigating options for a widened shared path?

  • Due to narrow road width along Duringan Street, the existing shared path is not wide enough for the high number of pedestrians and cyclists using the path. There is no dedicated on-road bicycle lane for the high number of cyclists
  • There are limited crossing facilities at intersections with high demand
  • The current path does not meet all Disability Discrimination Act 1992 standards

Community benefits

  • Provide a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Cater for the increasing growth in walking and cycling trips in the area
  • Add to oceanway, our active travel network along the coastal strip
  • Encourage healthier and more sustainable transport choices for residents and visitors
  • Improved accessibility for people with mobility or vision impairments
  • Improved personal safety by designing the shared path according to crime prevention environmental design principles
  • Reduce car use and road congestion by providing a more appealing active travel route
  • Reduce traffic accidents at local intersections
