Cycling shared path

We are constructing a new section of the Gold Coast Oceanway at Palm Beach North, as part of our investment to extend our network of walkways and bike paths to create a safer and better-connected Gold Coast.

Construction is underway for the new section along the existing road reserve (The Esplanade), between Tallebudgera Surf Life Saving Club and Twenty Third Avenue, Palm Beach. It extends the existing Oceanway from Burleigh Heads to Palm Beach in the south.

Construction details

When complete this new section will include:

  • 670 metres of 3.5-metre-wide concrete DDA-compliant shared pathway
  • new seating, water bubblers, bike racks, path lighting and dune vegetation
  • beach showers along the route
  • secondary pathway to connect to existing street pathways
  • directional signage and safety information.

The design for the Palm Beach North Oceanway is available by request to the project team via the project email address, or for viewing at Councillor Daphne McDonald's office (07 5581 6228):

Public impact

Construction began in March 2021 and will be completed in March 2022 (weather and construction conditions permitting).

Working hours are Monday to Friday between 7am and 4pm.

Works will be staged progressively to minimise impact to all residents and Oceanway path users. There may be:

  • some dust and noise
  • temporary road closure on The Esplanade
  • temporary restrictions to parking.

Beach access will be maintained with clear sign directions if temporary changes are necessary for safety.

Thank you for your patience while these important works are undertaken.
