Cycling shared path

The lighting on the Oceanway between Tugun Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) and Bilinga SLSC has been upgraded.

The Oceanway Tugun to Bilinga opened in December 2018. Its popularity with residents and visitors has exceeded all expectations.

Project details

We monitored the use of the pathway to ensure the infrastructure continues to be fit for purpose and meet compliance standards.

The level of usage at night required a lighting upgrade to meet the relevant Australian Standard.

Solar bollard lighting was replaced with 6.2 metre pole lighting (inclusive of a combined LED luminaire and solar panel). The lights dim from approximately 9pm with shields focusing the light onto the pathway and away from residential buildings.

Benefits for the community

  • An enhanced Oceanway user experience during the evening
  • Upgraded lighting improves network connectivity, safety and accessibility and promotes active travel to surrounding destinations, aligning with our Active Transport Strategy
  • A better-connected Gold Coast
