After gully pit conversion works

As part of our annual Gully Pit Conversion Program, we are upgrading a number of roadside stormwater drains with bike-friendly grates.

Project details

We have prioritised gully inlet grates along existing bicycle routes that are potentially hazardous to people on bikes.

This project ensures bicycle routes are safe and that an acceptable standard of drainage infrastructure is maintained.

The 2025-26 program encompasses 53 priority sites in Broadbeach Waters, Benowa and Burleigh Waters.

Impacts during construction

  • To minimise impact on surrounding residents, works are proposed to be completed between the hours of 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday
  • Street parking won't be available where the work is happening
  • Works will take place at various sites across the city – refer to Locations of works
  • Works are considered low impact and low risk and are expected to be completed in just a few days at each site (weather permitting)
  • Traffic cones and generic road works signage will be used to safely cordon off the area
  • Local residents may notice some temporary construction noise and minor disruption in some areas. Pedestrian management may be required at some sites
  • Property access will be maintained at all times and construction notifications will be delivered to local businesses and residents prior to works starting
  • At times there may be single lane closures, which will be managed by traffic control
  • Some works will involve the use of heavy machinery including, but not limited to, excavators and concrete trucks

Community benefits

  • Improved community safety around stormwater gully pit structures
  • Gully pits compliant to current Australian standards
