Nerang State High School – cycle and footpath upgrades

Works are underway to improve the road, pedestrian and cyclist network around Nerang State High School. The upgrade will provide a safe off-road environment for pedestrians and improve connectivity within the broader active transport network.
Construction details
- Construct about 500 metres of pathway (varying between 1.5m and 2.5m wide) along Birribi Avenue and Weedons Road, between Beaudesert Nerang Road and Gilston Road
- Reconstruct roadway kerb and channel on Birribi Avenue
- Reconstruct some driveways along Birribi Avenue and Weedons Road
- Upgrade a bus stop on Birribi Avenue
- Pavement resurfacing
- Construct kerb ramps and median thoroughfare through the intersection Birribi Avenue and Colrene Drive intersection
- Remove some on-street carparking
- Construct raised priority crossings at:
- the intersection of Birribi Avenue and Nerang River Drive
- the entrance and exit of Nerang State High School carpark on Weedons Road.
- Improve the intersection at Weedons Road and Crusader Way including:
- right-turn lane from Weedons Road into Crusader Way, reducing peak-hour congestion
- an extra signalised pedestrian crossing on the southern side of the intersection
- upgrade utilities conduits, pits, traffic signal poles and footings.
What to expect during construction
- Traffic management onsite, including traffic detours and delays
- Construction noise, dust and vibration
- Temporary lane closures, with alternative road and path access
- Temporary unavailability of on-street parking during construction
- Residents and businesses with driveway reconstruction works will be notified prior to construction
- Some vegetation trimming and removal
- Works occur between 6:30am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday
- Any required night works will be notified in advance
Road users are asked to observe traffic signs and onsite traffic management, including detours and speed reductions.
