Nerang Precinct redevelopment

Our Nerang Administration Centre and Nerang Bicentennial Community Centre is located in what is called the Nerang Precinct. Close to the Nerang CBD with easy access to the Pacific Motorway (M1), the Nerang Precinct is a strategic site for the City.

Services located at the Precinct:

Customer service centre
Staff administration office
Councillor offices for Division 5 (Cr Peter Young) and Division 8 (Cr Robert La Castra)
Community auditorium and meeting rooms
Community organisations: Albert Battery and Genealogical Society
Bicentennial Community Centre is a primary evacuation centre during a disaster event

Accommodation review

We have reviewed the City's office and depot accommodation so we can plan for the future. One recommendation is to relocate administration staff from the Nerang Administration Building to the Bundall Precinct by 2025. This recommendation creates an opportunity to explore potential redevelopment of the Nerang Precinct, for example, establishing a new community hub.

Public information meeting

A public information meeting (community town hall event) was held on 28 November 2023 to gauge local community sentiment and obtain high-level ideas for upgrading the Bicentennial building, including the potential relocation of existing community facilities (such as the Nerang Library and Nerang pool) to this site.

In summary, the 90+ community members who attended the town hall were active users of the existing community facilities and are open to the City investigating the feasibility of a community hub in the Nerang precinct. There was a preference for potential future community facilities to also include indoor and outdoor sports, swimming or aquatic centres and various arts-based activities including galleries, music, and entertainment.

We are working on a Community Facility Review Project to inform the strategic future of community services and facilities (including this precinct).
