Works to widen, realign and improve the Oceanway path between Kelly Avenue, North Burleigh and Justins Park, Burleigh Heads are complete. Minor works to the park and fitness areas are being finalised by March 2025.

This popular shared active transport path is an important section of the city's Oceanway. Path improvements will improve safety, accessibility and user experience.

Upgraded path

The path was widened from 3.5m to 5m. The new path was designed to avoid impacting existing mature trees. In areas where tree removal was required, revegetation using trees of the same variety tripled the canopy. No heritage-listed trees or Norfolk Pines were impacted.

Benefits for the community

  • Improved safety for pedestrians and bike riders
  • Improved connectivity to encourage active travel
  • The new path is compliant to the Disability Discrimination Act 1992
  • Improved look and feel of the area

This project is a collaboration between the Department of Transport and Main Roads and City of Gold Coast.
