Maintenance hole cover

We have an ongoing program to inspect the sewerage network across the city to check for damage and blockages.

The inspection program helps us to understand the condition of the sewer pipe and effectively schedule corrective action such as cleaning, repair or renewal.

Inspection details

To inspect the sewer pipes we use a remote cable camera. The cable camera is lowered into the sewer pipe from a maintenance hole and directed along the relevant section.

We sometimes need to access maintenance holes located within private properties to undertake our sewer pipe inspections.

We always aim to speak directly to the occupier before carrying out any works on private property.

Community impacts

  • Noise and intermittent odour
  • Changed traffic conditions
  • Changed on-street parking arrangements
  • Temporary footpath closures and diversions
  • Tankering and bypass pumping to temporarily redirect the flow of sewage

We will do our best to minimise disruption and thank you for your cooperation and understanding during these essential works.

Hours of work are generally 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. In some locations, night works may be required. Residents and businesses will be notified in advance.

Benefits to the community

  • Protect the environment and community health by preventing groundwater entry overloading the system
  • Minimise disruption to the sewerage network
