Not-for-profit organisation rate donations

If you are a not-for-profit organisation, you may be eligible for a rate donation rebate under the Assistance Policy.

Rebates (rate and water donations and development application discounts) are available for the following approved not-for-profit organisations:

  • community protection
  • assistance or encouragement for the arts or cultural development
  • educational, training or information services
  • health or community services, including facilities for aged persons and persons with disabilities
  • sporting and recreational activities
  • religious services, including places of public worship and associated facilities
  • charitable services such as relief of poverty or sickness or the needs of the aged
  • or the advancement of social and community welfare, including without limitation, the care, support and protection of children and young people, including the provision of child care services.

An organisation is taken to be not-for-profit only if:

  1. it is not carried on for the profit or gain of particular persons; and
  2. it is prevented, either by its constituent documents or by operation of law, from distributing its assets for the benefit of particular persons either while it is operating or upon winding up.

How to apply

Step 1.Gather your documents

To apply for a not-for-profit rate donation, you need to provide:

  • contact details, including business address, postal address and phone number
  • not-for-profit rate donation category type and property use.

Please allow up to 30 days for donation application to be processed.

Please note: The not-for-profit rate donation application form is only for rate donations – general rates and charges.

If you are currently receiving a not-for-profit rate donation on the rates and water rates accounts and there has been a change of circumstances, i.e. change in the occupation or use made of the property, please let us know as soon as possible.
