Pay your rates or water bill

Your rates and water bills show the date when payment is due.

We offer a discount for rates payments made on or before the due date shown on your rate notice. The discount amount on your rate notice represents a 10% discount on your General Rate.

There is no discount applicable on any other rate or charge appearing on your rates or water bill.

There are many ways you can pay your rates and water bills.

BPAY®

You can use BPAY® to pay your rates and water from your cheque, savings, debit, credit card or transaction account.

If you set up periodic payments using BPAY®, you won't need to think about when to pay your rates and water bills. Your payments will be made automatically, on the date you choose.

There are no fees for BPAY® from a bank account.

You can use BPAY® to:

  • pay your bills on the due date
  • follow a payment plan
  • make advance payments.

You can decide whether to pay the full amount showing on the bill or to schedule regular payments for a set amount.

Direct debit

To set up a direct debit, log into My Account, select your rates or water account and click Request direct debit from the rate or water account.

You will need to select one of the following direct debit payment options:

  • Due date – pay the full amount on the due date. Your rates and/or water notice will state how much will be withdrawn from your bank, credit union or building society on the due date of the notice.
  • Periodic payments – you can choose to pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly instalments. You will need to state the amount, date and frequency of the payments.

To set up direct debit payments, you need to:

  • be the property owner or authorised representative
  • know your notice number for your rates or water bill
  • have an account with a financial institution that offers direct debit transactions (check with your financial institution)
  • have sufficient funds available on the date your bill is due.

Note: credit card accounts are not accepted for direct debit payments.

Changes to your existing direct debit

You can change or cancel your direct debit at any time through My Account. Log in, select your rates or water account number and follow the prompts.

If you are not registered for My Account, you can Register for My Account now.

To change your bank account details, please complete a new direct debit request. This will automatically update your bank account details for your direct debit payments. You do not need to cancel your previous direct debit arrangement.

Alternate methods

Use of My Account and BPAY® is preferred. With BPAY®, payment is in your hands. You can also set up periodic bill payments using BPAY®.

Step 1.By mail

You can post your payments to us using a cheque, money order or bank draft (in Australian dollars).

Please make your payments payable to ‘City of Gold Coast’.

Post your payment, with the detachable deposit slip portion of your notice, to:

Step 2.Pay in person at

If you don't want to incur the credit card surcharge, you can pay:

  • by cash in person at the Commonwealth Bank (cash is not accepted at our Customer Service Centres)
  • from your bank account using direct debit or BPAY®
  • by cheque or money order via:

    - in person at our Customer Service Centres or any branch of the Commonwealth Bank.

Late payments

If you do not pay on or before the due date, you will not be eligible for the General Rate discount.

If you do not pay on or before the due date and you do not organise a payment plan with us, you will be charged interest on the outstanding amount. The current interest rate is 8% per year, charged daily. We may also begin recovery action against you, which could eventually lead to a public auction of your property.
