Beach wedding permit

Our amazing beaches offer the perfect back drop for a beautiful beach wedding. If you're planning to say "I do" on our golden sands, you'll need to apply for a permit.

Guidelines for beach weddings

  • Ceremonies can take up to 2 hours including set up and pack down
  • Up to 50 people can attend including your celebrant, wedding party and helpers
  • Marquees can be erected – maximum size 4m x 3m
  • Please comply with all parking signage and/or time restrictions
  • Please do not drive or park vehicles on the beach
  • Wedding photographers/videographers do not need an additional permit
  • To protect our wildlife, please do not use confetti, balloons and rice
  • Please keep amplified sound to a reasonable level
  • Only non-alcoholic beverages can be consumed on Gold Coast beaches
  • Please note: we cannot fence off an area for your ceremony or provide furniture or power sources

Beach wedding ceremony locations

Beach weddings are possible at most City of Gold Coast beaches; availability may vary depending on the location. A few areas are not available for ceremonies to help protect the natural environment and ensure public access. Wedding ceremonies are unable be held at:

  • Justins Park viewing platform at Burleigh
  • Echo Beach on the Burleigh Head National Park side of Tallebudgera Creek
  • Surfers Paradise beach from Hanlan Street to Cavill Avenue

We recommend you check What's On Gold Coast and My Neighbourhood for any scheduled events, Council projects or other activities that may clash with your proposed date and location.
