We regulate and monitor commercial swimming pools on the Gold Coast to make sure they are operated and maintained to an appropriate level that reduces risks to public health and safety. Our role is to monitor the standard of operations and provide compliance requirements that help provide a hygienic and safe swimming environment.
You need a licence from us for swimming pools that are used for a commercial purpose or that are located on residential premises where the pool is used for more than two dwelling units, for example a townhouse complex. Examples are:
- aquatic centres
- learn to swim pools
- gym and health centre pools
- hydrotherapy pools (including flotation therapy pools, recovery pools)
- holiday accommodation pools
- club pools
- private school pools
- swimming pools under a body corporate of a group subdivision scheme (where there are 3 or more dwellings)
- interactive water features such as water slides, water play areas, splash pads or spray parks – whether temporary (e.g. as part of an event), or permanent (e.g. within a theme park).
You don't need a licence for state school swimming pools or swimming pools at single or two residential dwellings.
Licences are valid until the 31 August each year (except for temporary licences) and are renewed annually. There are no fees for a new licence or for licence renewal. For more information visit Permits & licensing renewals.
