Residential care service parking permit

You can apply for a residential care service parking permit if you are a carer who is contracted to or employed by an approved home care service provider.

A residential care service parking permit allows carers unlimited parking in time-limited parking areas, subject to conditions.

A residential care service parking permit can only be used in time-limited parking areas of 2 hours or more (2P zones or longer). The carer must be actively carrying out their paid work while parked.

Note: If you have an existing permit, do not apply for a new one. You can amend your existing permit to update car or contact details. Visit our Amend/cancel a permit page.

A residential care service parking permit is for paid carers. If you are an unpaid or volunteer carer who cares for a particular person at a specific address, you should apply for a carer parking permit.

Conditions of use

You can only receive one residential care service parking permit.

The conditions of use for a residential care service parking permit are listed on the documentation that comes with your permit.

  1. The permit must be clearly visible on the left-hand side of the front dash of the vehicle.
  2. The permit is not valid for use in a metered space or where parking is prohibited.
  3. The permit is only valid for use whilst the holder is actively engaged in carrying out the services of a current, registered home care provider.
  4. The permit is only valid for use in a designated parking space that is signed to permit at least 2 hours of parking and it is necessary to park the vehicle for longer than the maximum time indicated on the sign.
  5. The permit is not valid for a caravan, motorbike, trailer, long vehicle or heavy vehicle.
  6. The permit must not be copied or reproduced.

Residential care service parking permits may be renewed annually by way of acknowledgement to the City. They are valid for one calendar year from 1 September to 31 August. We will notify you when your permit is due for renewal.

You can renew your permit using one of the methods described on our Permits and licensing approvals page.

Apply for a permit

To apply for a new residential care service parking permit, you need to make sure you are eligible.

You can only get a residential care service parking permit if you are employed by or contracted to an approved home care service provider.

The person who provides the care must apply for the permit, not the organisation they work for.

An approved home service provider is an approved provider under the Aged Care Act 1997 as a home care service.

Before completing your application, you will need to know your vehicle registration details. If you use more than one vehicle, you can list all the vehicles on the application. You will receive one permit listing all the vehicles it applies to.
