Accessible parks

The vision for City of Gold Coast's Accessible and Inclusive City Action Plan 2020-2025 is 'a city where everyone's included'.

We're continually working to improve accessibility within our parks.

Fenced playgrounds

A list of parks with fenced playgrounds can be found by using our Park finder and selecting 'Fenced playground' from the 'Select facility' field.

This search function can also be used to find parks with disabled toilets and Liberty Swings as well as general information, such as barbecue facilities, boardwalks, picnic tables and shelters.

Accessible toilets

Parks with the best accessible toilets (fully Disability Discrimination Act compliant) are listed below:

Changing Places toilets

Changing Places toilets are installed at Broadwater Parklands and near the beach at Burleigh Heads. These toilets have wider doorways, an adjustable height change table and a ceiling tracking hoist and shower.

To find out more and where they are, visit our Changing Places toilets web page.

Liberty Swings

The Liberty Swing is designed to provide enjoyment for children with disabilities and special needs. This equipment has been donated by the Variety Club and is available for use by special groups and individuals with carers. To gain access to the Liberty Swing you will need to obtain a Master Locksmiths Access Key.

Access keys are restricted to people who have a disability, or who have written authority from:

  • a doctor
  • a disability organisation.

Access keys can only be purchased from Business Members of the Master Locksmiths Association of Australasia or directly from the head office of the Association. Please view the information on the Master Locksmiths Association of Australasia website.

The Liberty Swing is a fantastic piece of playground equipment and due care of the equipment and respect for the safety of users must be considered at all times. Please ensure the gate is locked upon leaving.

Liberty Swings can be found in the following parks:

Vehicle access to parks

Organisations that provide social and recreational outings for seniors and people with disabilities can obtain access to gate keys that enable vehicle access to parks, which assists people with limited mobility to access facilities including toilets and picnic areas. Access to gate keys for such organisations is free.

Call our Parks and Recreational Services team on 07 5667 5972 for more information.

Beach access from parks

Some of our parks back onto beautiful Gold Coast beaches. Many of these beaches have accessible features, such as connecting pathways, level viewing platforms and access ramps down to the sand.

All Abilities Playground – Kurrawa Park

In conjunction with Disability Services Queensland, we created an accessible playground at Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach.

This park incorporates sensory, motor, imaginative and educational aspect of play, and is designed to enable children to play outdoor alongside friends and family.

A Liberty Swing is available for use and the park also has an accessible change room facility, which includes a changing bench and hoist.

Nature strip & road verge mowing – assistance for people with disabilities

Our Parks and Recreational Services branch has committed to providing mowing assistance of road reserve areas fronting residential properties, to eligible residents who are aged or have a disability. Visit our Nature strip & road verge mowing page for information on how to apply.
