We manage and maintain over 400 sports and recreational facilities that can be booked for club and school sports, events and commercial activities.
Sports clubs, schools and not-for-profit groups
Sporting grounds and facilities can be booked annually or seasonally by:
- sport and recreation clubs and associations
- schools
- not-for-profit organisations.
To find out more about this program, visit Sports facility booking application.
Commercial activities
Businesses or individuals can apply to conduct commercial activities at a sports park, for example, professional sports coaching, sports clinics or school holiday activities.
To find out more visit Commercial activities in parks.
Community or major events
Holding a sports ground and facility booking and permit does not mean you have approval to stage community or major events. User groups must:
- seek the City’s approval for any such event, and
- ensure the event is carried out in a safe manner whilst preventing nuisances to the surrounding environment.
When does your sports field booking become an event?
You will need to submit a Community or major event form if your sports field booking:
- requires extra infrastructure, for example, portable toilets, bins, marquees or a jumping castle
- may cause nuisance, for example, traffic or noise.
General public
Outdoor sports fields and facilities are free for community use when not in use by an associated sports club or organisation. Sports clubs have set dates and times for their training and competition, but outside of these times the community is welcome to play casually. No booking is required for groups of under 50 people.
To book an outdoor sports field or court for a social game (for example, AFL, rugby, soccer, netball or athletics) please visit Book a social gathering or private function in a park.
Sports field closures
To find out if a sporting field is closed due to maintenance or weather visit Sport field closures.
Information about sports field closures is updated at 8:30am and 2pm on business days. It is not updated on public holidays or on weekends.
As we are unable to constantly inspect all sports fields within all parks, and because weather conditions can change quickly, advice regarding closure of fields due to wet weather is a recommendation. It is the responsibility of the respective club onsite to determine playing and/or training conditions.
Schools, clubs and groups who use the fields against our advice are reminded that if they cause damage to the playing surface, they may be liable for fines and/or cost for repairs.
