Order or change a commercial waste service

If your business or body corporate would like to set up a new waste, recycling or green organics collection service with the City or you want to alter your existing service, you need to consider:

Bin types

There are 3 types of bins available:

Compacted bulk waste services and compacted RORO services can also be arranged, but users of such services must provide their own waste compactor and waste bin.

Bin sizes

Bins are available in a range of sizes. You might be able to find your current bin size on the trim of your bin body. The stamp includes information about the Australian Standard number, bin size and bin weight.

Select your bin type and size from the following charts.

Waste collection vehicle dimensions

The space available for a waste collection vehicle to access and service your bin storage areas needs to be taken into account. These include:

  • collection vehicle dimensions – travelling height, servicing height, width, length and turning radius
  • added margins (100 millimetres height and 500 millimetres width) for vehicle dimensions to allow for truck variation
  • if applicable, additional margin allowed for wall-mounted/under-ceiling services (lighting, water, sewerage, electricity, data, air-conditioning, fire systems and other emergency) and other permanent fixtures (bollards, barriers, cupboards and signs)
  • if applicable, additional margin allowed for roadway gradients at basement entrances and near storage areas.

There are 3 types of collection trucks – side-lift truck (wheelie bins), front loader (bulk bins) and hook-lift truck (RORO 35 cubic metres bin) – and these diagrams of collection may assist in your planning.

Number of collections per week

Commercial waste wheelie bins and bulk waste containers can be serviced up to 7 days per week, depending on your service area.

RORO (roll-on, roll-off) containers are for waste only, and can be serviced as required, up to 7 days per week, depending on your area.
