Recycling helps reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. When done correctly, it saves energy, lowers greenhouse gas emissions and helps protect the environment.
Yellow recycling bins are collected fortnightly.

Your recycling bin
Only put accepted recyclable items in your yellow recycling bin.
Items you can recycle:
- paper and cardboard (newspapers, cereal boxes, packaging)
- glass bottles and jars
- hard plastic containers (milk bottles, detergent bottles, takeaway containers)
- aluminium and steel cans
- clean cartons (juice and milk cartons).
Why correct recycling matters
Putting general waste or organics in your recycling bin can:
- contaminate recyclables, making them unusable
- damage sorting equipment
- cause entire loads to be sent to landfill
- increase processing costs.
Not sure what goes where? Search over 40,000 items using Recycle right.
Yellow recycling bin rules
- Batteries and disposable vapes are not recyclable – don’t put them in your yellow bin
- No plastic bags – place items loose in your bin
- Rinse containers to remove food and liquid
- No soft plastics – items like chip packets and cling wrap can contaminate recycling. Check for dedicated soft plastics drop-off programs.
Upsize your recycling bin
You can upgrade to a larger 360 litre recycling bin, to increase your recycling capacity by up to 50%.
