On-demand bulky kerbside collection

Monthly allocation fully booked

What is the FLEXiSKIP service?

FLEXiSKiP is our on-demand FLEXiSKiP kerbside collection service. Eligible households can apply for one free service each year.

Monthly FLEXiSKIP allocations

Due to high demand, the City has introduced a monthly allocation for FLEXiSKiP collections. Orders are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. If you miss out, you can reapply from the first business day of the following month.

For immediate disposal, residents can access our network of 11 Waste and Recycling Centres which are open every day, apart from Good Friday and Christmas Day.

How does FLEXiSKiP work?

FLEXiSKiP is a heavy duty, 3 cubic metre skip container with a one tonne capacity. It is big enough to fit couches, mattresses and other large bulky items (dimensions are 1 metre high x 2.2 metres long x 1.4 metres wide). You can set up the FLEXiSKiP within 4 metres of the street kerb, fill it up and then arrange collection.

We have partnered with the Handel Group to provide this service. Visit FLEXiSKiP or phone 07 5619 5221, Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm, to find out about:

  • setting up an online account (credit/debit card details and a valid email address are required as part of the application process)
  • the charges applied to your credit/debit card if there is a breach of FLEXiSKiP terms and conditions of use
  • booking a delivery or collection
  • using your FLEXiSKiP
  • what items are accepted and not accepted.

Charges

Reason Charge
Collection not booked within 30 days of the FLEXiSKiP being delivered. $58

Your booked collection can't occur – this can be due to a range of issues including:

  • the skip's location is unsuitable for collection; for example, not on kerbside or too close to cars, trees and powerlines
  • the skip is overweight or oversized
  • the skip contains non-accepted items.
$62 for every failed collection attempt
Contaminated items and non-accepted items are discovered in the skip after collection. Calculated based on type and amount of items

Who is eligible

This service is free for eligible Gold Coast residents. Most residents with a wheelie bin collection service are eligible.

You are not eligible if you live in:

  • high-rise or unit complexes with an existing bulk bin service
  • any complex with 10 or more units/lots
  • rural areas that do not have a City waste collection service, or island communities
  • Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove resort complexes that are serviced by a private waste services contractor.

To check your eligibility, go to the FLEXiSKiP website.

Disposing non-acceptable items

Visit our Recycle right and Disposing of hazardous materials pages for information about how to dispose of items not accepted for kerbside collection.

Other important information

  • You cannot give your FLEXiSKiP to another household once it has been delivered. FLEXiSKiP uses GPS registration and the QR code on the bag will not activate a skip collection at any property other than the one it was initially delivered to. You may incur a fee if the FLEXiSKiP is moved to an alternate property.
  • We understand that some eligible residents may have difficulty moving heavy items and filling their FLEXiSKiP. We recommend in the first instance that residents get assistance with these tasks from an able-bodied neighbour, family member or friend.
  • To dispute charges, please email us at bulk-kerbside@goldcoast.qld.gov.au. We investigate disputes on a case-by-case basis and make a based decision based on the evidence.
