We provide three bin collection services to help Gold Coasters manage their waste:
Don't put batteries or vapes in the bin
Batteries and disposable vapes can ignite and set fire to our garbage trucks when crushed. Help keep our workers safe – don’t put used batteries and vapes in the bin.
Recycle Street accepts most used batteries. Many local retailers also collect batteries for safe disposal.
When are bins collected?
- General waste bins are collected weekly
- Recycling and green organics bins are collected fortnightly, on the same day as your general waste bins, alternating each week

How to put your bins out
- Place bins within 1 metre of the kerb the night before collection (including public holidays)
- Ensure bins face the road and are clear of cars, trees and other obstacles
- Leave at least 30 cm between each bin
- Keep bin lids fully closed
- Bring bins back in as soon as possible after collection to reduce the risk of damage, theft or safety issues

- Assisted household service – for residents unable to move their bins
- Wheel-out, wheel-back service – a paid option where we put your bins out and return them after collection
What is a standard bin set?
If your property is within a collection area, you will usually receive a standard bin set that includes:
- a 240-litre general waste bin (red or dark green lid)
- a 240-litre recycling bin (yellow lid)
- a 240-litre green organics bin (lime green lid, for most freestanding homes).
