Building work near Council pipes

Most work near existing Council-owned sewer, water supply and stormwater pipes is regulated by the Queensland Development Code Mandatory Part 1.4 (QDC MP1.4).

This code explains when building work close to our infrastructure needs assessment. Many application types can be assessed by a private building certifier, however, some must be referred to us for assessment.

When the Queensland Development Code applies

If you need to refer your application to us for assessment, we recommend you engage a building certifier to provide advice on any referral requirements.

Your application must follow all requirements in the Building over or near Council sewer, water supply and stormwater infrastructure guidelines(PDF, 1MB)

To lodge an application for assessment, visit Referral Agency Assessment.

If a proposed structure meets the QDC MP1.4 acceptable solutions but is within a Council easement, you still need our consent. Submit an application using the Build within an existing Council sewer/stormwater/water easement (BOSE) request form(PDF, 489KB)

When the Queensland Development Code does not apply (notifiable works)

Notifiable works are minor works near our water or sewer pipes that do not need referral or Operational Works approval. Check the following guidelines to confirm if your work is notifiable:

Building over or near Council sewer, water supply and stormwater infrastructure guidelines(PDF, 1MB)

If the guidelines apply, submit an Application to undertake notifiable works form(PDF, 114KB)
