Standpipes & filling stations

We provide access to bulk drinking water and recycled water through filling stations and direct access to our reticulated water system. To gain access to these bulk supplies you must apply for and be granted approval.

Access to bulk drinking water supplies

To get approval to access our bulk drinking water supplies, you must:

  • hire a metered standpipe from us
  • be a registered business
  • hold a current backflow prevention test certificate if you are using a vehicle for water transportation
  • hold a mobile food licence if the water is to be used for drinking purposes or for domestic use.

Hiring a metered standpipe

Metered standpipes can be hired short-term (2 days up to 8 weeks) or long-term (more than 8 weeks).

Standpipe application process

To hire a metered standpipe, you need to:

  • hold a current credit account (business partner number) with us – to apply download Application for credit account(PDF, 86KB)
  • complete the following online application form for each standpipe you want to hire (paper application forms can be requested by calling 1300 000 928)
  • pay a security deposit for each long-term metered standpipe hire
  • agree to the terms and conditions of hire outlined in the Approval for supply of potable water through a metered standpipe(PDF, 711KB)
  • submit water usage readings to us at intervals specified in your agreement (all late or missing readings will result in a late fee being charged). 

How to apply

  2. Gather your documents:
    - an Australian Business Number (ABN) 
    - a backflow certificate
    - vehicle registration/s (for each vehicle the metered standpipe will be connected to)
    - vehicle identification number/s (VIN) (for each vehicle the metered standpipe will be connected to)
    - food licence certificate (if the water is to be used for drinking purposes or for domestic use)
  3. Complete the following online application for each metered standpipe you want to hire

Next steps

We will notify you about the outcome of your application within 5 business days.

Short-term hire: If approved, we will contact you to arrange an appointment for you to collect the standpipe. 

Long-term hire: If approved, we will email you a payment notice for the security deposit payment. After your payment is confirmed, we will contact you to arrange an appointment for you to collect the standpipe.

Standpipes are collected from the Nerang Customer Service Centre, 833 Southport Nerang Road, Nerang.

Filling station maintenance

We operate permanent drinking and recycled water outlets to dispense water into a tanker or other portable water vessel for water carriers who have obtained approval to access.

From time to time, filling stations may be shut down for scheduled maintenance. If there is a scheduled shut down we'll update the drinking water filling station page or send you an SMS with details.

If you experience a problem at a fill station, report the issue by calling us on 1300 000 928.

Returning a standpipe

If you no longer need your metered standpipe, call us on 1300 000 928 or email applications@goldcoast.qld.gov.au to arrange a suitable time to return. After returning the standpipe, your final account charges will be calculated. If a refund is due, we will contact you for your bank account details.

Damaged, lost or stolen standpipe

If your standpipe is faulty or damaged, contact us within 48 hours to report the fault and arrange a replacement. We will assess the standpipe damage and make necessary repairs. If you are found to be at fault, we'll send you an invoice for repairs.

If a standpipe is lost or stolen, you must report it to the Queensland Police immediately then call us on 1300 000 928 to provide us with the report number and relevant details.

After these details are received, we will estimate final charges for your account and provide you with an invoice. Any security deposit paid will be forfeited and, if another standpipe is required, you will have to pay another deposit.
